Welcome to another edition of the 'Name That Thing' puzzle on Jagran Josh. Today, we have birds of prey, or predator birds (also known as raptors), featuring on this puzzle.
These hypercarnivorous species, approximately more than 500 species, actively hunt and prey on vertebrates. Their diet includes mammals, small birds, reptiles, fish, or insects.
These predator birds are found worldwide except in Antarctica. These predators have sharp eyesight, up to 8 times better than humans. These raptors can reach diving speeds of 190 to 320 km/h. Fascinating, isn't it?
That's not all. These birds of prey have existed for 50 to 75 million years. These raptors are believed to have descended from predatory theropod dinosaurs. As per official reports, over 50 per cent of all raptor species are in decline, with 18 per cent facing extinction.
Did you know that Indonesia has the highest richness of raptor species? There are about 119 raptor species within the country. Indonesia also has the highest number of declining raptor species, with 63 species facing population extinction.
These are a few interesting facts about the birds of prey. Let us fly back to our challenge for today. Here are three predator birds in the image below. Can you name them all?
