All the bank customers across the nation may face problems with all the banking services. It is because the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has announced a series of nationwide bank strikes on the social media platform. The first bank strike is scheduled for September 11, 2026.
The demand of the union is simple, a 5-day working week for all the banks. There's another demand stating a review of the revised Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. If this strike takes place and is successful, several banking services may be affected.

- Cash deposits and withdrawals: Cash-related services at bank branches could be disrupted.
- Cheque services: Cheque clearing and processing may be delayed.
- NEFT/RTGS and other services: Some banking transactions and back-office services could face delays.
- Loans and other bank work: Loan processing, account-related work and other branch services may be affected or delayed.
What Are Bank Unions Demanding?
Bank unions are demanding work weeks to be five days for all banks. The UFBU says the Indian Banks' Association (IBA) agreed to the proposal in March 2024. Bank workers would work an extra 40 minutes every day from Monday to Friday, and Saturdays would be holidays. But it looks like the implementation of the scheme is yet to be cleared.
The unions also want the modified Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) to be revised. They want PLI to depend on the overall performance of the bank. The unions have said that the decision on the revised PLI scheme should be taken considering the previous agreement between them and the IBA.
