NMC Released Seat Matrix for Undergraduate MBBS Courses at nmc.org.in, Official Notice Here
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the undergraduate (MBBS) seat matrix for the 2026–27 academic year today, September 10, 2026. The updated matrix includes approvals for new medical colleges and increased intake capacities from the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) and relevant Appeal Committees under the National Medical Commission Act, 2019.
In a latest notification, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the seat matrix for undergraduate (MBBS) Courses (excluding INIs) for the academic year 2026-27. In the seat matrix document, NMC states that all Medical Colleges shall strictly ensure that admissions are made only against the approved number of seats.
The updated Seat Matrix allows establishment of new Medical (MBBS) Colleges and increase in the annual intake capacity of existing Medical (MBBS) Colleges, as approved by the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB), the 1st Appeal Committee, NMC, and the 2nd Appeal Committee, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoH&FW), under the relevant provisions of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019.

Any admission made in excess of the approved intake capacity shall be treated as non-compliance of the provisions of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, and the regulations framed thereunder, and shall attract appropriate regulatory and penal action against the defaulting Medical College/Institution.
The seat matrix will be subject to revision, wherever required, on the basis of subsequent decisions of the Appeal Committee(s) or any other competent authority. Any revised Seat Matrix, wherever applicable, shall be uploaded on the official website of the National Medical Commission and shall be taken into consideration by the Central and respective State Counselling Committees for counselling and admission.
In case any Counselling Committee notices any discrepancy or deviation in the approved Seat Matrix, the matter shall be referred to the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) for clarification. No Counselling Committee shall, under any circumstances, permit admission against seats in excess of the number of seats approved and notified by MARB.
Any Medical College/Institution, under no circumstances, shall admit students in excess of its approved annual intake capacity. Any admission made in excess of the approved intake capacity shall be treated as non compliance of the provisions of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, and the regulations framed thereunder, and shall attract appropriate regulatory and penal action against the defaulting Medical College/Institution.
