Key Points
- NHAI set two Guinness World Records on the NH-544G expressway on January 6, 2026.
- India is the first to commercially produce bio-bitumen from agricultural waste.
- Expressway reduces travel time between Amaravati and Bengaluru to 6 hours.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has set two Guinness World Records during the construction of the Bengaluru-Kadapa-Vijayawada Economic Corridor (NH-544G) in Andhra Pradesh. India becomes the first in the world to commercially produce Bio-bitumen. It lays 28.95 lane kilometres and 10,675 Mt of Bituminous concrete continuously within 24 hours, which reflects India’s vision of the sustained thrust on world-class highway infrastructure. The six-lane greenfield national highway is designed to reduce travel time between Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, and Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Key Highlights:
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has officially entered its name into the Guinness World Records during the construction of the Bengaluru-Kadapa-Vijayawada expressway (NH-544G), especially on the Vanavolu-Vankarakunda section of Andhra Pradesh, India. The records were set by achieving unprecedented speed and volume in road construction within 24 hours. It covers
-
-
Record One: It lays the distance of 28.95 lane km of bituminous concrete continuously within 24 hours.
-
Record Two: It utilised the volume of 10,675 metric tonnes (MT) of concrete continuously within 24 hours.
-
India also achieved the historical milestone of being the first nation in the world to commercially produce bio-bitumen from agricultural waste.
-
-
The greenfield section spans approximately 342 km from Kodikonda to Addanki/Muppavaram, while brownfield upgrades cover Bengaluru–Kodikonda (73 km on NH-44) and Addanki–Vijayawada (113 km on NH-16).
-
It is located near Puttaparthi in the Sri Sathya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh.
-
The record was set by 600 engineers and workers who worked round the clock to execute the project while maintaining stringent NHAI quality standards.

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari hailed this achievement as an exceptional commitment of engineers, workers and field teams while maintaining the full compliance of NHAI quality standards, which highlights
-
Engineering precision and coordinated execution ensure the road meets high-durability benchmarks.
-
Faster construction of the NH-544 economic corridor also strengthened the economic impact. It will ensure freight movement between the IT hub of Bengaluru and Amaravati by skipping congested roads and towns.
-
The road was constructed by the Rajpath Infracon, which is already attempting two more records of continuous road on packages 2 and 3 of the same corridor by January 11, 2026.
-
India also achieved the historical milestone of being the first nation in the world to commercially produce bio-bitumen from agricultural waste, which boosts the rural economy and India's commitment to sustainable development and Aatmnirbhar Bharat.
The Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada greenfield national highway project stands as a monumental testament to India’s evolving engineering power and its commitment to world-class quality infrastructure. The NHAI has demonstrated that high-speed execution can coexist with stringent quality standards by achieving the two Guinness World Records. The greenfield project will not only reduce the travel time between major economic hubs of India but also serve as a blueprint for future greenfield economic corridors across the nation.
