List of CCTV Camera Companies Banned in India: Check Reason Here

Last Updated: Apr 2, 2026, 13:08 IST

Effective April 1, 2026, MeitY has enforced regulations requiring STQC certification for all internet-connected CCTV cameras. Major Chinese firms like Hikvision, Dahua, and TP-Link face sales restrictions due to certification failures related to components and firmware. This initiative supports Make in India and strengthens national cybersecurity.

Strict certification regulations are already in place in India, which will be enforced on April 1, 2026, and will essentially prohibit the sale of internet-connected CCTV cameras that are not certified by a number of Chinese firms.

Such an action by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) puts national security and cybersecurity first.

Key Affected Companies

The main companies affected are Hikision, Dahua technology and TP-link whose products have been refused to be certified by STQC because of Chinese based components such as System-on-Chip (SoC) and firmware.

These companies controlled the market until not long ago but currently experience the limitation of smart, internet-enabled models sales.

Company

Origin

Primary Reason for Restriction

Hikvision

China

Failed STQC cybersecurity testing

Dahua Technology

China

Chinese components; certification denial

TP-Link

China

Non-compliant internet-connected devices

What are the Reasons for the Ban?

These limitations are based on the risks of cybersecurity, such as the possibility of remote access, data breach, and unauthorized monitoring through foreign devices.

New requirements have STQC certification, component origins disclosure, vulnerability testing, and Essential Requirements (ER) compliance under BIS requirements. This is after a two-year transition to advance local production and less dependence on Chinese technology.

Official Framework

The rules under IS 13252 (Part 1) are enforced by MeitY through the Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification (STQC) directorate and BIS through Compulsory Registration Order (CRO). The government procurement prohibits the use of non-certified devices, which is in line with the National Security Directive on Trusted Sources. There is no explicit MHA blacklist; limitations are imposed due to certification failures.

The embargo interferes with the surveillance industry, which advantages Indian brands such as CP Plus that employs non-Chinese chipsets. The current cameras are still effective but have upgrade problems in the future; new sales are now characterized by certified alternatives. This helps in supporting the Make in India by increasing local production in a rapidly expanding market.
