The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has officially announced a revision in the fees for its FASTag Annual Pass for the financial year 2026-2027, which will be effective from April 1, 2026. The cost for revised charges for prepaid travel facilities will see a slight increase for private vehicle owners, the adjustment is part of the annual toll fee revision conducted in accordance with the National Highways Fee Rules, 2008.
NHAI announced the one-time fee for private vehicle owners will increase from ₹3,000 to ₹3,075 which was launched in August 2025, allowing non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans to enjoy up to 200 toll crossings or one year of travel without per-trip deductions.,

What is a FASTag Annual Pass?
A FASTag Annual Pass was introduced on August 15, 2025. It is a subscription-based model designed to offer financial relief to frequent highway travelers to make users a one-time payment for a fixed number of trips instead of paying varying toll rates at every plaza. The key features are
Key Features of FASTag Annual Pass:

Trip Limit: Valid for exactly 200 toll crossings.

Duration: Valid for one year or 12 months from the date of activation.

Automatic Reversion: Once the 200-trip limit is reached or the year concludes, the tag automatically reverts to a standard pay-per-use FASTag until a new pass is purchased.

The FASTag is accepted at approximately 1,150 fee plazas across National Highways (NH) and National Expressways (NE) in India.
NHAI Revised Fee Increase and New Rates from April 2026
The NHAI revises these rates annually based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) to account for inflation and maintenance costs and reduced congestion at major toll points

Note: For frequent commuters, even at the new rate of ₹3,075, the effective cost per trip is approximately ₹15, offering savings of up to 80% compared to standard toll charges.
The ₹75 increase is a routine regulatory update. Since its launch, over 56 lakh users representing 28% of private car transactions have opted for the pass which has significantly reduced congestion at major toll points.
Eligibility and Important New Rules:
To avail of the pass, vehicle owners must follow the following NHAI guidelines:

Vehicle Type: Exclusively for Class 4 non-commercial vehicles like Car, Jeep and Van and Commercial vehicles are not eligible.

VAHAN Integration: The FASTag must be linked to a Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) and verified via the VAHAN database; however Tags registered only with a chassis number are ineligible.

Tag Placement: The FASTag must be properly affixed to the windshield; handheld or un-affixed tags may result in deactivation of the pass.

Exclusions: The pass does not cover State Highways or local body tolls. In such areas, the toll will be deducted from your regular FASTag wallet balance.
How to Apply/Renew the Annual Pass
You do not need a new FASTag sticker to upgrade to an Annual Pass. You can activate it on your existing tag through official digital channels:

Activation Time: The pass is generally get active within 2 hours of successful payment.

Payment Method: Payments must be made via UPI, Net Banking, or Cards. You cannot use the existing FASTag wallet balance to buy the pass.
