JEE Main 2026 Exam Format
The JEE Main 2026 examination is conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech). The exam is held in two shifts each day, with the morning shift scheduled from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and the afternoon shift from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Candidates are required to attempt the paper within the given time duration at their allotted exam centres.
JEE Main 2026 Paper Pattern
The JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 consists of three subjects – Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, each carrying equal weightage. The question paper includes multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and numerical value-based questions. The total duration of the exam is 3 hours, and the maximum marks are 300.
| Subject | Section A (MCQs) | Section B (Numerical Questions) | Marks |
| Physics | 20 | 5 | 100 |
| Chemistry | 20 | 5 | 100 |
| Mathematics | 20 | 5 | 100 |
| Total | 60 | 15 | 300 |
Each correct answer carries 4 marks, while 1 mark is deducted for an incorrect answer.
Note: Earlier, there was no negative marking for numerical value-based questions in JEE Main. However, as per the official update, negative marking has now been introduced for numerical questions as well. One mark is deducted for every incorrect numerical response, similar to multiple-choice questions.
