While serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Lawngtlai district in Mizoram, she noticed that many Anganwadi centres and schools did not have proper infrastructure or access to nutritious food.

She launched the “Kan Sikul, Kan Huan” (My School, My Farm) initiative to solve this issue. Under this program, nutrition gardens were created in schools and Anganwadi centres so that children could receive fresh and healthy food.

Despite challenges such as shortage of seeds, fertilizer, and water, the initiative successfully expanded to more than 713 institutions. Her work is considered a strong example of how administration can directly improve the lives of children.

Tina Dabi
