CBSE Class 9 English Language & Literature Syllabus 2026-27: Syllabus Update

CBSE has introduced changes in the latest English Language & Literature syllabus for the 2026-27 cycle. According to the latest CBSE curriculum released for 2026-27, Class 9 English follows the revised language framework based on NCF-SE 2023. Before both the papers were separated in language and literature formats, the core would be retained as the same. However, as per the new framework, it is divided into two proficiency levels - R1 and R2—instead of dividing the paper into two separate courses. This aims at fostering creative expression and forming a connection between linguistic heritage and the Indian Knowledge System (IKS).

The pedagogy formation will follow an activity and discussion-based approach along with the following:

  • Attention on oracy (speaking & listening) and literacy skills.

  • Effective communication and clear expression.

  • Promotes the importance of literary works and critical thinking
