Clinics stand out as a successful and reliable initiative. Launched with the forward-looking vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, this scheme is no longer just a government programme but is gradually taking the shape of a people’s movement rooted in the everyday needs of citizens. Started on August 15, 2022, the program has made the idea of healthcare close to home a tangible reality.
The 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics set up across the state have significantly enhanced the primary health care structure. The treatment given to crores of patients and lakhs of free diagnostic tests have clearly proven that if proper healthcare is made accessible and affordable, people do not hesitate to seek medical help. The strong participation of women also reflects the positive social impact this initiative is creating.
The biggest strength of these clinics lies in free medicines and diagnostic services. With 107 types of medicines and 47 diagnostic tests available, the scheme has brought major relief to poor and middle-class families. A patient satisfaction rate of 98 percent and the large number of patients returning for follow-up care are clear indicators of trust and service quality.
From the economic point of view, too, the scheme has reduced the burden on common people. When primary health care functions at the grassroots level, it saves almost ₹ 2,000 crore and reduces the burden on major medical centers. This has been further enhanced by the IT-enabled digital system for better transparency and effectiveness. Today, Aam Aadmi Clinics are not just centres for treatment, but have become a foundation for a healthier, stronger, and more self-reliant Punjab.
