The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to keep schools closed for summer vacation until June 24 2026 because of the heatwave everywhere in the state.The revised new schedule is for schools that're part of the Basic Education Council and other schools that are recognised. Now classes will start again on June 25. The Uttar Pradesh government made this decision to protect students from the heatwave and to make sure that all schools in Uttar Pradesh follow the same schedule.

UP Extends Summer Vacation Till June 24

According to an official order issued by the state government, summer vacations will now be from May 20 to June 24 every year, replacing the earlier reopening schedule of the schools. The decision was taken in view of prevailing heatwave conditions in several districts, and is aimed at protecting the health and safety of students.

Schools to Reopen on June 25

The government says that all the schools that the government knows about under the Basic Education Council will start again for students on June 25 2026.. The teachers and the Shiksha Mitras and the instructors and the non-teaching staff have to go to the schools from June 22 to June 24 to get everything ready for the new school year. The schools will do a lot of things during these three days. They will plan the lessons. Give out the textbooks and make sure the mid-day meal is ready and have meetings with the school management committee and clean the schools, get the Bal Vatika ready, check the sports equipment and other facilities. The government has instructed schools to ensure that all arrangements are completed before students return. 

Government Aims for Uniform Academic Calendar

Officials stated that the revised schedule will bring greater uniformity to the academic calendar across Uttar Pradesh and reduce the need for district administrations to announce local extensions during periods of extreme weather. The order also directs schools to maintain essential facilities such as drinking water, electricity, and sanitation for students.

RTE Norms and International Yoga Day Observance

The government has reiterated that schools must comply with the Right to Education (RTE) Act, ensuring at least 220 working days in every academic session. Additionally, educational institutions will organise activities to mark International Yoga Day on June 21, promoting health and wellness among students and teachers before the new session begins.
