Show Key Points

The UK Government is set to implement a fresh hike in visa fees across important categories, including student, work, and visitor visas. The revised fee structure, expected to roll out in 2026, could see increases of up to 25%, making it more expensive for individuals planning to study, work, or travel to the country.

This move is a part of a broader effort to align immigration-related costs with administrative expenses. However, the increase is likely to place an additional financial burden on international applicants, particularly students already managing tuition fees and living costs.

Visa Categories to Become Costlier

Student visas are among the most impacted, with the current fees expected to rise further alongside existing surcharges such as the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS). This could significantly increase the overall cost of studying in the UK for international students. Similarly, skilled worker visas will also be revised to include pricing. Applicants seeking long-term employment opportunities in the UK may need to pay substantially higher fees depending on the duration and type of visa.

Visitor Visas, commonly used by tourists and short-term travellers, are also set to become more expensive. Even a short stay in the UK may now require higher upfront costs, potentially affecting travel demand. While the government maintains that the hike is necessary to support the immigration system.
