NTA To Form Subject Committee: The National Testing Agency, on February 19, 2026, was given four weeks by the Delhi High Court to constitute an expert committee to review the issues raised by candidates in the UGC NET History examinations. Nine questions and two translations were contested by aspirants. According to reports, a writ petition was filed by a candidate contesting four questions and argued before the court to review the same. The first hearing was conducted on February 10, 2026, where the court asked the NTA to respond to the petition within four days. NTA’s advocate, however, submitted in court that a committee has been formed to make decisions regarding the History subject.
During the second hearing, the counsel contended that one of the issues raised in the petition did not require the need to form a committee because the options were visibly similar. According to the counsel, if the options were similar, the committee's opinion was unnecessary. The petitioner was just two marks short of qualifying for JRF if even one of the questions had been correct. Based on this, the judge granted the petitioner two marks and dismissed the petition. On the same day, however, the NTA was directed to consider the intervention applications of other students within four weeks.
The court order issued states that the applications shall be treated as representations by the NTA, and the NTA shall constitute an expert committee to evaluate the objections. The expert committee will look into applications, hear applicants and pass an order expeditiously, no later than four weeks from February 19, 2026. The NTA has reportedly mailed students on February 21 regarding forming a subject expert committee to re-examine concerns related to the History paper.
