NIT Rourkela 2026: NIT Rourkela has introduced four new B.Tech and M.Tech programs in Mathematics & Computing, Engineering Physics, and Semiconductors for the 2026-27 session. Aimed at deep-tech workforce development, these courses offer limited seats and admit students through JEE Main and GATE to foster interdisciplinary, research-driven innovation in line with NEP 2020.

NIT Rourkela 2026: The NIT Rourkela successfully introduced four new courses for the academic year 2026-27 on May 13, 2026. This initiative has been taken by the university to help meet the demand for professionals from various deep-tech fields such as Semiconductors Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Quantum Research, among others. The inclusion of such courses into the curricula of the university has been made in order to ensure alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. 

New programs launched in recent times are of two undergraduate programs that involve B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing and B.Tech in Engineering Physics where each program has an initial intake of 25 students based on JEE Main scores. These two are at the undergraduate level whereas new programs at the graduate level are M.Tech in Semiconductor Devices and Technology and M.Tech in Machine Learning and Signal Analysis where intakes are 15 and 12 respectively, which can be done via GATE. Both programs are designed in a way such that they help to make the nation self-reliant in their efforts towards India Semiconductor Mission and the National Quantum Mission.
