Diana, Princess of Wales, or Princess Diana, was born on 01 July 1961 in Sandringham England. She was born in the Spencer family, a renowned British aristocratic family, which has had lengthy historical connections with the royal family of the British kingdom.

The Royal UK mentions: “Diana, Princess of Wales, formerly Lady Diana Frances Spencer, was born on 1 July 1961 at Park House near Sandringham, Norfolk. She was the youngest daughter of the then Viscount and Viscountess Althorp, now the late (8th) Earl Spencer and the late Hon. Mrs Shand-Kydd, daughter of the 4th Baron Fermoy. Until her father inherited the Earldom, she was styled The Honourable Diana Spencer.”

Diana grew up in England and her early years were spent in a number of boarding schools. 

She was educated first at Riddlesworth Hall at Diss, Norfolk. Later she went to West Heath near Sevenoaks, Kent in 1974 where she showed immense interest and talent for music, dancing and domestic science. 

Later she moved away in the year 1977 according to Royal UK to finish her schooling at the Institut Alpin Videmanette in Rougemont, Switzerland. 

She met Prince Charles, an heir to the British throne, and they got married which led to a significant change in her life in 1981. The royal wedding was held at the St. Paul's Cathedral.

The Royal UK mentions: “On 24 February 1981 it was officially announced that Lady Diana was to marry The Prince of Wales. As neighbours at Sandringham until 1975, their families had known each other for many years, and Lady Diana and The Prince had met again when he was invited to a weekend at Althorp in November 1977.” 

“They were married at St Paul's Cathedral in London on 29 July 1981, in a ceremony which drew a global television and radio audience estimated at around 1,000 million people, and hundreds of thousands of people lining the route from Buckingham Palace to the Cathedral. The wedding reception was at Buckingham Palace,” it adds.

Why is this Personality Famous? Her Major Contributions

Princess Diana was known not only due to her royal rank but also due to her humanitarian activities and compassion to humans.

She volunteered on a number of social causes and charities, especially those that deal with children, the homeless, and individuals with terminal diseases.

Another significant input she made was creating awareness about HIV/AIDS across the globe in the 1980s and 1990s. Diana interacted with patients publicly at a time when the disease was highly stigmatized and misinformed and contributed to raising compassion and awareness.

The National Aids Trust mentions: “In April 1987, Diana opened the first dedicated HIV and AIDS ward at London Middlesex hospital. In front of the world’s press she held the hand of a man who lived with HIV. Derek Bodell.”
