Jensen Huang: Early life and education

Jensen Huang was born on February 17, 1963 in Tainan, Taiwan, his family moved to Thailand and then he and his brother were sent to the United States where he went to a rural school in Kentucky that actually was a reformatory school for troubled youth. He later setlled with his family members in Oregon. Huang worked as a busboy and a waiter in Denny's during his student life.

During his tenure in AMD he worked on microprocessor design, which provided the neccessary technical ground for it later. His next move was to LSI Logic where he worked in the engineering, marketing, management. He was made a Director of the CoreWare division.

Founding NVIDIA

Huang found NVIDIA on April 1993 with fellow engineers Chris Malachowsky and Curtis Priem, coincidentally at a Denny's restaurant un San Jose. The inital funding was $40,000 and they raised capital of $20 million. 

He was chosen as the CEO of the company. NVIDA was initially focused in building specialised chips and GPU's for rendering 3D graphics. The company went public in 1999.

Key achievements

1. Huange had a vision of repositioning GPU's parallel processing  for running artificial intelligence mode and this vision made NVIDIA chips at the centre of AI data centers.

2. Nvidia achieved a valuation of $5 trillion in 2026 to becoming the first publicly traded company to be able to sustain such a high valuation.

3. Some of his personal achievements are being rated as the World's Best Perfoming CEO in the year 2019, IEEE founders medal in 2020, Edison Award in 2024, Queen Elizabeth  Prize for Engineering in 2025, and IEEE Medal of Honor in 2026.
