Which International Cricket Stadiums are Currently Active in Uttar Pradesh? 

1. Green Park Stadium, Kanpur

Established in 1945, Green Park is Uttar Pradesh’s oldest and one of the most iconic cricket stadiums in the country. It is located in Kanpur on the banks of the River Ganga. The stadium is known for hosting several memorable Test matches.

Green Park has also served as a home venue for an IPL franchise. Gujarat Lions used the stadium as one of their home venues during 2016. The stadium currently has a capacity of around 32,000 spectators. However, a proposed redevelopment plan could increase its capacity and improve its facilities.

The first international match at Green Park was played between India and England from January 12 to 14, 1952. England won the match by 8 wickets.

2. Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow

Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium is the biggest cricket stadium in Uttar Pradesh. Located in the state capital Lucknow, the stadium was inaugurated in 2017 and has a capacity of around 50,000 spectators.

The stadium serves as the home venue of IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants. It has modern facilities along with a world class drainage system. The pitch also has options for both black and red soil which provide different playing conditions.

Ekana Stadium has also hosted matches during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Its first international match was hosted in 2018 when India faced West Indies in a T20I. Rohit Sharma scored an iconic century in the match.

3. Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex, Greater Noida

Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida is the third active international cricket venue in Uttar Pradesh. The stadium received ICC accreditation in 2016 and has a capacity of around 8,000 spectators.

The venue served as the home ground for the Afghanistan national cricket team for a long period. However, due to its location and logistical issues it has not hosted any match involving the Indian team.

The first international match at the venue was played between Afghanistan and Ireland in 2017. 

Which Stadiums are Under Construction in Uttar Pradesh? 

1. Varanasi International Cricket Stadium 

Varanasi International Cricket Stadium is one of the cricket stadiums that is currently under construction in Uttar Pradesh. Pictures of the stadium have been spotted in social media, making cricket fans excited.

The architectural design of the stadium is based on the culture of Varanasi and is in honor of Lord Shiva. This theme can be seen at various parts of the stadium such as its floodlights, roof, and media center.

The construction of the stadium will have a capacity of about 30,000 people and can eventually have a capacity of 40,000 people. It is said that the stadium is expected to be completed next year.

2. Gorakhpur International Cricket Stadium

Another cricket stadium that is currently under construction in Uttar Pradesh is the Gorakhpur International Cricket Stadium. This stadium is currently being constructed with world-class facilities and infrastructure.

It is expected to be completed sometime in late 2027 or early 2028.
