Another proposal is the 136.3-km Delhi–Panipat–Karnal Namo Bharat corridor, estimated to cost ₹33,051.15 crore. It is planned to have 17 stations, with provision for four additional stations, linking Delhi with the industrial centres of Panipat and Karnal.

Haryana has cleared the final feasibility report for the proposed Metro extension connecting Ballabgarh in Faridabad with Palwal, marking a massive measure towards expanding public roads connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR). The detailed project report (DPR) has been sent to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for further review.

The decision was reviewed at the 66th board meeting of the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC), chaired by Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi. The approval advances the proposal through the planning process, although it does not mean construction has begun.

The extension is slated to strengthen transport links between Faridabad and Palwal, two important urban centres in southern Haryana. Better public transport connectivity could benefit daily commuters, students and workers travelling between residential areas and employment hubs. The project may also help reduce dependence on private vehicles, subject to its eventual implementation and integration with existing transport services.

Why Is the Ballabgarh–Palwal Extension Important for Delhi-NCR?

Ballabgarh is an important transport and industrial centre within Faridabad, which is connected to Delhi through the existing Metro network. Extending the network towards Palwal could improve access to the wider NCR and provide an additional public transport option for people living farther south of Faridabad.

Palwal's growing residential and economic activity makes regional connectivity an important infrastructure priority. A Metro extension could support easier commuting and improve access to educational institutions, workplaces and commercial centres along the corridor.

However, the project's final route, station locations, construction timeline and implementation schedule will depend on the subsequent approval and planning process. The latest development should therefore be viewed as a step towards project clearance rather than confirmation of an immediate construction start.

Haryana Plans Wider Metro and Rapid Rail Network

The Ballabgarh–Palwal proposal is part of a broader push to expand Haryana's urban and regional transport infrastructure. At the HMRTC meeting, officials also reviewed several proposed Metro and Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors.

One major proposal is the 35.25-km Metro corridor connecting Gurugram Sector 56 with Panchgaon. The planned elevated line will have 28 stations and is intended to connect with the Namo Bharat network. The project is awaiting final state approval.

Namo Bharat corridors to connect Delhi-NCR

Another proposal is the 136.3-km Delhi–Panipat–Karnal Namo Bharat corridor, estimated to cost ₹33,051.15 crore. It is planned to have 17 stations, with provision for four additional stations, linking Delhi with the industrial centres of Panipat and Karnal.

A proposed Gurugram–Faridabad–Noida–Greater Noida Namo Bharat corridor is also under consideration. Route alignments and station locations for its Gurugram and Faridabad sections have been finalised at the state level, with the DPR sent to the relevant development authorities for comments.

What Happens Next to Ballabgarh–Palwal DPR Project?

The submission of the Ballabgarh–Palwal DPR to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is an important administrative milestone. Further approvals, funding arrangements, technical planning and decisions on implementation will determine when the project can move towards construction.
