Early Life

R.K. Narayan was born in a Tamil Brahmin family in Madras (now Chennai). He was one of the eight children in his family. His father was a school headmaster, and he had a transferable job. 

Due to this, Naryan was spending much of his childhood with his grandmother, and his grandmother played an important role in shaping his early learning and values.

Education

Narayan’s early education took place in different schools due to frequent transfers. His grandmother taught him subjects like Sanskrit, mathematics, and moral stories. Later, he completed his higher education in Mysore. He loved reading and developed a strong interest in literature from a young age.

Career

At the beginning, R.K. Narayan struggled to find success as a writer. He worked hard and kept writing despite many challenges. Slowly, his work started gaining attention, especially after his early novels were published.
