Arundhati Roy was born in Shillong, India and was brought up in Aymanam in Kerala. Her mother, Mary Roy, was a renowned women rights movement activist and she had an enormous impact on Arundhati's thoughts and character. 

She attended the School of Planning and Architecture at Delhi. She experimented most with various jobs at a young age, teaching and screenwriting among others.

Career

Arundhati Roy began in film and television scriptwriting. She also featured in the movie " In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones". 

In 1997, her fame came with The God of Small Things that won the renowned Booker Prize and made her famous across the globe.
