ISC Physics Sample Question Paper 2026 By Experts

SECTION A– 14 MARKS

(i) When a beam of white light is incident on a prism, the prism:

(a) only disperses the incident light.

(b) only deviates the incident light.

(c) deviates as well as disperses incident light.

(d) neither deviates nor disperses incident light

ii) Answer the following questions briefly:

(i) Current I flowing through a metallic wire is gradually increased. Show graphically how heating power (P) developed in it varies with the current (I).

(ii) State one method to minimise flux loss in a transformer.

(iii) Why are giant telescopes of reflecting type? Give any one scientific reason.

(iv) Give any one example where a ray of light travelling from one optical medium

to another travels undeviated.

iii) What happens when an electron collides with a positron?

(vii) What is the direction of flow of electrons in a solar cell?

(v) The relative permeability of substance ‘X’ is slightly less than one and that of substance ‘Y’ is slightly more than one. Then:

(a) ‘X’ is paramagnetic and ‘Y’ is ferromagnetic.

(b) ‘X’ is diamagnetic and ‘Y’ is ferromagnetic.

(c) ‘X’ is paramagnetic and ‘Y’ is diamagnetic.

(d) ‘X’ is diamagnetic and ‘Y’ is paramagnetic

vi) N-type semiconductor is that which has:

(a) majority of holes as charge carriers.

(b) majority of free electrons as charge carriers.

(c) trivalent element added as an impurity.

(d) an equal number of holes and free electrons.

(vii) Assertion: When a convex lens made of glass is completely immersed in water, its focal length increases.

Reason: The refractive index of glass with respect to water is greater than that of glass with respect to air.

SECTION B – 14 MARKS

1. The current (I)-voltage (V) graphs for a conductor are given at two different

temperatures T1 and T2.

(a) At which temperature T1 or T2 is the resistance higher?

(b) Which temperature T1 or T2 is higher?

2. Arrangement of an oxygen ion and two hydrogen ions in a water molecule is shown in Figure 4 below.

Calculate electric dipole moment of water molecule. Express your answer in terms of e (charge on hydrogen ion), l and θ.

3. Two moving coil galvanometers G1 and G2 are identical except that they have 50 turns

and 20 turns and resistance of 10Ω and 1Ω respectively. Perform necessary

calculations to check which one has greater voltage sensitivity.

4. Magnetic field at the centre of a circular coil is B. Calculate the magnetic field at the same point when each of the current, number of turns of the coil and its radius is doubled.

5. With reference to photoelectric effect, define the terms:

(i) Threshold frequency.

(ii) Work function

SECTION C – 27 MARKS

6. Obtain an expression for electric potential (V) at a point near a point charge ‘Q’

7. A galvanometer having a resistance of 20$\Omega$ shows a full scale deflection with a current of 1mA. How can it be converted into a voltmeter with a range of 0-10V?

8. In a hydrogen atom, an electron jumps from the first excited state to the ground state,

and a photon is emitted. This photon is incident on a metal surface having a work

function of 2eV. Calculate the stopping potential of the electron emitted from the

metal surface.

SECTION D – 15 MARKS

9. Draw a labelled diagram of a full wave rectifier. Show graphically how its output voltage varies with time.

Students can use these questions to prepare thoroughly for the upcoming exams and master the paper.
