A security scare led to the evacuation of Terminal 1 at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) on Monday, causing temporary travel disruptions.
Authorities responded rapidly to the reported threat, prioritizing passenger safety and completing an assessment of the threat before securing the area.
As a result, travelers experienced significant confusion and delays in processing. However, after completing a thorough investigation, officials confirmed that passengers were in no ongoing danger.

Emergency Response and Evacuation
Emergency response measures were implemented at Raleigh-Durham International Airport when staff alerted law enforcement to a potential security threat.
Staff and passengers were evacuated out of Terminal 1 so that law enforcement could perform detailed sweeps for threats to the terminal.
Emergency protocols were activated immediately upon the reception of the threat; officers secured all entrances and exits from the terminal for the safety of all personnel and passengers entering or exiting the terminal.
Witness accounts of the evacuation described calm urgency. Airport employees assisted passengers in exiting Terminals 1 quickly and efficiently.
Authorities have yet to release specifics concerning the threat, however they did indicate that there was a reason to take precautions.
Flights Temporarily Disrupted
Due to the evacuation of Terminal 1, delay in flight activity occurred. Flights arriving and departing from Terminal 1 were delayed and some were initially suspended until all airport authorities could adequately assess threats associated with the evacuation.
Airline customers were requested to contact their respective airlines to obtain status updates, as all departing flights from Terminal 1 were put on hold during the security assessment.
Flights arriving to Terminal 1 were also disrupted, although minor rescheduling took place.
Airport officials and Airlines have worked together in an effort to minimize operational disruptions following the termination of operations in Terminal 1 and resume operation as soon as possible after the terminal has been declared safe.
