Israel-Iran War: CBSE To Hold Class 12 Exams For Result-Declared Students In Gulf Countries

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced special Class 12 examinations for eligible students in West Asian countries whose results were prepared under the assessment scheme introduced earlier this year. The decision covers students in the UAE, Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

The board will conduct examinations in 40 subjects that were earlier cancelled due to the prevailing situation in the region. The subjects include 20 academic and 20 skill-based papers. CBSE issued the notification on September 15, 2026, following the Supreme Court’s directions in the matter. 

“In compliance with the decision of the Hon'ble Supreme Court in CWP-815 of 2026, CBSE has now decided to conduct examinations for all such Class XII candidates in West Asian countries, whose results were declared under the Assessment Scheme, in the 40 subjects that were previously cancelled,” the CBSE said. 

Why Is CBSE Conducting Special Class 12 Exams?

The decision follows the cancellation of Class 12 examinations in the seven affected countries earlier this year. CBSE had cancelled the examinations scheduled from March 16 to April 10, 2026, for students in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

To ensure that students could receive their results despite the disruption, CBSE introduced an assessment scheme on March 27. The scheme enabled the board to calculate marks for the affected subjects without requiring students to take the cancelled papers. CBSE’s official examination circulars confirm that the assessment scheme was specifically introduced for Class 12 results in the West Asian countries. 

Supreme Court Proceedings Behind The Fresh Exams

The special examination decision also comes after a petition filed by students from the Gulf and other West Asian countries. The plea sought various forms of relief, including grace marks, uncapped special examinations and an option under which students could retain the better score between their assessment-based marks and examination marks.

The matter was taken up by a Supreme Court bench comprising Justices K.V. Viswanathan and Alok Aradhe under Article 32. CBSE’s latest decision now provides eligible students an opportunity to take the previously cancelled examinations. 

Who Can Appear For The CBSE Special Exams?

The special examination facility is not open to every Class 12 student. Eligible candidates are those whose results were declared under the assessment scheme and who had already submitted their examination forms for the 2026 main examinations.

Students can select the subjects in which they wish to appear rather than taking all 40 papers. However, candidates who were absent from the original March examinations for any reason will not be eligible for these special examinations. Students who had not registered for the 2026 main examinations also cannot apply.

CBSE Special Exam Registration Dates

Eligible students will be able to submit their List of Candidates (LOC) or examination forms from September 22 to September 26, 2026. CBSE has said that the forms must be submitted by the students themselves through the link that will be made available on the board’s official website.

The board has also clarified that there will be no extension of the registration window. Students therefore need to complete the process within the specified dates. 

No Examination Fee For Special Re-Exam

Students appearing for the special examinations will not have to pay an examination fee. The examination centres will remain the same as those allotted earlier, according to the latest details released by CBSE.

Candidates should also note that they cannot change their subjects after submitting the examination form. CBSE will not conduct another examination for a subject that has already been held by the board.

When Will CBSE Announce The Special Exam Dates?

CBSE has not yet released the detailed timetable for the special examinations. The dates are expected to be announced after the registration process concludes.

The board has also clarified that there will be no facility for a further post-result declaration after these special examinations. The marks obtained in the special examination will be considered final for the subjects chosen by the student.

Schools in the affected countries have been directed to inform eligible students about the decision and assist them with the registration process. The CBSE notification has also been shared with Indian missions in the concerned countries for coordination.
