The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has launched an online diploma programme for teachers teaching Science at the middle stage, covering Classes 6 to 8. The Diploma Course in Teaching of Science at Middle Stage is designed to strengthen teachers’ subject knowledge, pedagogical skills and classroom teaching practices.

The programme will be offered through the NCERTX online learning platform and will run for 40 weeks. Registration for the 2026-27 batch will begin on October 12, 2026, and eligible candidates can apply until November 12, 2026.

The online diploma course is primarily intended for teachers involved in teaching Science at the middle-stage level, particularly Classes 6 to 8. The programme focuses on helping educators improve their understanding of Science and develop effective teaching-learning practices.

NCERTX describes the programme as an online learning opportunity for in-service and pre-service teachers involved in teaching Science up to Class 8.

The course will comprise 40 modules, with each module being opened on a Monday and expected to be completed within one week. The entire programme, including the final examination, will be completed over 40 weeks. The curriculum covers a broad range of Science topics, including:

  • Metals and non-metals
  • Motion and force
  • Fluid pressure
  • Energy, heat and temperature

NCERT Teacher Diploma Course Fee

Candidates enrolling in the online diploma programme will have to pay an enrollment fee of Rs 2,000. The course is designed as a flexible professional-development programme that teachers can pursue alongside their regular responsibilities. The weekly academic commitment is expected to be around 6 to 8 hours.
