However, as reported by different sources, comedian Tanmay Bhat is at the top of the list being the wealthiest YouTuber in India with an estimated ₹665 crore net worth. What is even more astonishing is the way he managed to arrive there since the story of Tanmay Bhat does not take him straight to the top. It is a story of coming back.

Tanmay Bhat began as a television show writer in programmes on different channels, and rose to the top of the household name list in the online entertainment sector in India. In 2012, he created AIB with another co-founder and it became one of the biggest comedy shows in India already due to its roasts, and sketches.

Then came the fall. In 2018, the AIB shut down. It looked like the end of the chapter. However, to Tanmay it was the beginning of a new one.

By 2019 Tanmay Bhat returned to YouTube as an independent creator of vlogs, games streams, commentaries, and reaction videos with his own name. His videos were not as formal as the sketches of AIB. His transparency in personal shortcomings, mental stress, and creativity struggles generated good faith among his followers who had been on his side since the AIB days. 

How Does He Actually Earn His Money?

And this is where an interesting part comes in. Tanmay Bhat is not only a YouTuber, in a conventional way. He is a digital entrepreneur by pure definition. His estimated fortune is not only from his YouTube but from his flexibility and investments in start-ups, along with his business sense. 

His revenues are also earned out of various activities like YouTube advertising, YouTube subscriptions, branding, live events, merchandise and his advertising agency which is the brainchild behind some of the popular ads in India including the infamous CRED commercials. 

After the ₹665 crore figure entered the social media, Tanmay tweeted on X (formerly Twitter) with his usual humour. He said, jokingly, that if he had that much money, he wouldn’t be selling YouTube memberships. 

This amounts to unbelievable figures and this does not happen by chance. The richest YouTubers have other sources of income other than ads. They develop companies, introduce products, and develop several streams of income. And they know their audience so well, understanding what their viewers desire. Perhaps the best example can be the comeback of Tanmay Bhat, which began with the cancellation of AIB and now he is one of the richest YouTubers in India.
