The FIFA World Cup 2026 is about to begin! For the first time, the tournament is being held in three countries at the same time. The United States, Mexico, and Canada will all host opening ceremonies before their first matches. This is a very special moment in football history.

What Is the FIFA World Cup 2026 Opening Ceremony?

The opening ceremony is a big show that happens before the first match of the World Cup. This year, there will be three opening ceremonies in three different cities. Each ceremony will celebrate the culture of its host country through music, dance, and art.

All three ceremonies are being directed by Marco Balich, who has created shows for many Olympic ceremonies in the past. Even though each show will look different, all three are connected by one big idea: football brings people together.

  • Mexico will be shown through the art of papel picado (colourful paper decorations).

  • Canada will celebrate its cultural mosaic, which means its mix of many cultures.

  • The US will show a "super shiny, glowing cup" to represent its style and energy.
