SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2026: Eligibility Criteria and Selection Process
To apply for the Stenographer post, which offers a government job in various ministries, departments, and organisations, one should have completed the Class 12th or an equivalent examination from a recognised board as of August 1, 2026. Given below is the eligibility criteria to be considered for the Stenographer posts:-
- For Grade D posts, candidates must be between 18 to 27 years old. For Grade C posts, the age limit is 18 to 30 years old. Age relaxation will be based on the government guidelines.
- The total number of vacancies being offered by the SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2026 is 731 posts, which is distributed among various categories.
- The application fee to apply for these vacancies and appear for the exam for the General, EWS and OBC candidates is Rs 100, while the application fee for SC, ST, PwBD, ESM, and all female candidates is exempt from payment.

The selection process for the SSC Stenographer 2026 involves two important stages. One is the Computer-Based Examination, CBE, which is scheduled for July-August 2026. The second stage being the Stenography Skill Test. In this, the candidates who appear for the Grade C post will be given a dictation of 100 words per minute for 10 minutes and in Grade D posts, candidates will be given a dictation of 80 words per minute for 10 minutes.
Interested candidates are advised to complete their One-Time Registration, OTR, on the official website, that is ssc.gov.in, and submit their forms well before the deadline to avoid any technical glitches.
