NEET UG 2026: NTA Announces Big Changes for Exam, Extra Time and New Paper Design Layout Inside
The NTA has announced key updates for the NEET UG 2026 exam on June 21, including an extended exam duration of 3 hours and 15 minutes, doubled rough work space, and a redesigned question paper layout to better accommodate left-handed candidates.
The National Testing Agency, NTA has made some changes to the NEET UG re-examination that is coming up in 2026. They did this because of what students have been saying over the years. The National Testing Agency wants to make the day of the exam easier and more comfortable for everyone.
The NTA made these changes to the exam so that it is fair for all students. The exam is on June 21, 2026. The National Testing Agency is making some big changes to the way students take the NEET exam. They are trying to make the NEET exam better for students. Here is what the National Testing Agency is changing for the exam.
NEET UG 2026: Exam Window Stretched to 195 Minutes
Students used to say that they did not have enough time to write their exams because they had to do a lot of things before they could start. They had to check their admit cards and sign their names on the attendance sheets. They also had to do verification. All these things took up a lot of time that they could have used to write their exams.
The NTA has now fixed this problem. So they have decided to give students time to write their NEET exams. The exam will now start at 2:00 PM. End at 5:15 PM. This means students will have 3 hours and 15 minutes to write their exams. This extra time will help students do all the things they need to do before they start writing. They will be able to check their admit cards and sign their names without feeling rushed. They will also be able to do verification. After that they can use all the time they have to write their exams. This way students can use their exam time to do their work. The NTA hopes that the extra time will help students do well on their exams.
NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam: Rough Pages Doubled
Physics and Chemistry sections have a lot of math problems and some calculations. They need space for chemical equations and rough diagrams. Students have been saying for a time that the space for rough work was not enough.
The NTA has listened to what the students are saying and they have made the space for rough work bigger. Now the NEET UG 2026 question paper will have four pages for rough work instead of the usual two pages. This means students will have space to do their rough work, for Physics and Chemistry.
Clever New Paper Layout: Special Focus on Left-Handed Students
Earlier, all rough sheets were placed at the absolute end of the question paper booklet. While this was fine for many, feedback revealed that it was highly inconvenient for certain students, particularly left-handed candidates, who found flipping back and forth clumsy under exam pressure. To solve this problem, the NTA has redesigned the question booklet layout:
- Two rough pages will now be placed right at the beginning of the booklet, immediately after the main instruction page.
- Two rough pages will remain at the very end of the booklet.
This new layout will be applied universally for both the English and all regional language versions of the question papers, allowing students to use whichever side feels most comfortable for them.
Official Advice for Exam Day
The NTA said that little changes to the exam can make a big difference to how students feel on the day of the exam. They can help students feel less anxious. The rules have been made a bit easier to help students. The National Testing Agency made it clear that they will still be very strict, about making sure everything is fair and that nobody cheats.
Students who want to take the UG 2026 exam should read everything on their NEET UG 2026 Admit Cards very carefully and also read the information that they get when they download it. The National Testing Agency wants students to work with the people at the test center so that everything goes smoothly on the day of the UG 2026 exam.
