Show Key Points

Tonight, a winter weather advisory has been issued. A developing system is bringing a combination of snow, sleet, or freezing rain, which will create hazardous travel conditions.

Light snows are expected to start this evening, but will change over to sleet with pockets of freezing rain overnight while temperatures remain near freezing.

Even minor accumulations of ice will create slick roadways, bridges, and overpasses throughout the late-night hours.

Forecasters are also warning that Tuesday morning's commute may be adversely affected by poor visibility and potentially hazardous driving conditions.

Drivers are urged to slow down, increase their stopping distances, and continually monitor their local forecasts.

Advisory Issued for Midwest, Great Lakes, and Northeast

The National Weather Service has warned of winter weather through tomorrow, March 3rd, 2026, for several parts of the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, and Northern New England including parts of northern Wisconsin, Michigan's Upper Peninsula, New York State, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

There is expected to be a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain through Tuesday morning, creating potentially dangerous conditions to drive in.

Evening Snow Expected to Transition into Wintry Mix

According to the forecast, light snow will start to fall late tonight across the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes; then overnight, the snow will transition to sleet/freezing rain. As temperatures remain around the freezing mark, icy roads, bridges, and overpasses are likely.

Travel Impacts and Safety Measures

Even a small amount of ice accumulation can cause very dangerous driving conditions. Drivers are being asked to slow down and give themselves more time to stop, and to check the road conditions frequently.

There is also a potential for commuters to be delayed or experience unsafe travel conditions tomorrow morning because of the weather.

Meteorologists use the term "wintry mix" to identify multiple types of winter precipitation that occur when there are different layers of temperature in the atmosphere.
