How Diwali 2026 Time Vary Across Indian States?

The local prayer windows of Diwali depend directly on regional sunset timings. So households in eastern regions such as West Bengal, Assam, Odisha, and Arunachal Pradesh begin evening observances significantly earlier than western areas like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Goa.

In northern states and union territories including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir evening prayer hours peak close to 6:00 PM.

In southern states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala, the festival is observed on November 8. Many traditional oil baths and family rituals start early in the morning before the evening illuminations.

This time Diwali falls on a Sunday in 2026. And regular central government offices and educational institutions will mark the holiday over the weekend.

Some state governments, however, have notified extended local holidays for Dhanteras or Govardhan Puja. The time frame between November 6 and November 12 would thus be an appropriate one for scheduling any travel.
