Why Is Dhanteras Celebrated?

Dhanteras is celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day (Trayodashi) of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik. The word Dhanteras comes from two Sanskrit-derived words: 'Dhan', meaning wealth, and 'Teras', meaning the thirteenth day.

According to Hindu beliefs, Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped on this day for wealth and prosperity, while Lord Dhanvantari is associated with health and Ayurveda.

People traditionally purchase gold, silver, utensils and other valuable items on Dhanteras because these purchases are considered auspicious. Homes and shops are decorated with diyas, rangoli and flowers to welcome prosperity and good fortune.

Conclusion

Dhanteras is not just about buying gold, silver or other valuable items; it is also about celebrating happiness, health, relationships and new beginnings. A simple message or heartfelt greeting can make your family members and friends feel special during this festive occasion.

Whether you choose a traditional greeting, a short WhatsApp status, an Instagram caption or a heartfelt Facebook post, share these Dhanteras wishes with your loved ones and spread happiness everywhere.
