The Day 1 action of the Asian Games 2026 medal events has concluded with some exciting performances across various events and categories in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. India managed to win 2 medals on the first day, while China once again dominated with 20 medals, including 11 golds.

The 20th edition of continental tournament is featuring athletes from 45 countries and regions competing across more than 10,000 athletes and 469 medal events.

Asian Games 2026: How India Performed on Day 1? 

India won two medals on the first day of the Asian Games 2026, with both being silver medals. The initial medal came in the women's 10m air rifle team event, where Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod clinched the silver medal.

Meanwhile, the second medal also came in shooting, with Elavenil Valarivan clinching silver in the women's 10m air rifle individual event. She was also part of the Indian team that won silver in the team event, giving her two medals on the opening day.

In a historic moment, 36-year-old Suchika Tariyal assured India of a historic MMA medal in the 60kg category. This will be the first time an Indian athlete has assured a medal in MMA at the Asian Games. She defeated Mongolia's Altanchimeg Baigalmaa 2-0 to reach the semifinals.

Meanwhile, in cricket, India Women also ensured a medal by qualifying for the final after defeating Bangladesh by a massive 114 runs. Shafali Verma's century powered India to a commanding victory in the semifinal.
