NYT Connections

The NYT Connections puzzle is a brand-new type of daily online word puzzle where participants must connect different groups of related items by visually connecting the items in a way that shows their similarities through grouping.

For each puzzle, there will be 16 unrelated random words that players will need to create sets of four from by finding the commonality between groups of four (the "set group"). The overriding objective of this puzzle will be to connect the 16 words with each other by creating sets of four individual connections.

On April 1, 2026, participants in the New York Times Connections puzzles will be required to create "connections" between each of the 16 random words and create a common set of words from the four sets of four groups created by the user.

All word-puzzle groups will be classified by the relative level of difficulty; therefore, the four groups that comprise the final puzzle will be classified into three different levels of difficulty: easy, moderate, and difficult.

What is the NYT Connections Game?

Developed by The New York Times, NYT Connections is a word puzzle that provides users with the opportunity to group a set of 16 unrelated words into four distinct categories based on the characteristics of each word.

To complete their NYT Connections puzzle, individuals must utilize logical thinking skills, strategic thought processes, and patience as well as leverage vocabulary skills, reasoning abilities, and pattern identification skills, thereby increasing the speed in which they will complete their puzzle because they are applying logic to accomplish it.

Regardless of a participant's age, this will be a rewarding and thought-provoking experience for all.

How to Play the NYT Connections Puzzle?

Each participant receives 16 randomly chosen unrelated words in Connections; therefore no one participant's letter will relate to another participant's letter in any way. Participants must use the physical characteristics of the individual letters of the words to determine how the letters should be grouped into four groups.

Given that many of the letter may represent more than one category, participants need to apply logical thinking and be detail-oriented when determining how to sort all 16 letters into their respective categories.

Pattern recognition and strategic thinking combined with a willingness to make mistakes will be the required skills for successfully accomplishing this puzzle.
