CBSE Percentage Calculator

Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE conducts Class 10 and 12 board examinations every year. The results for Class 10 are released in April and June while for Class 12 the results are released in the month of May. The board releases the marks obtained by the students but does not share the percentage – aggregate or otherwise in the marksheet. Here is a simple tool for all students who wish to calculate their CBSE percentage.

CBSE Percentage Calculator Tool

The CBSE Percentage Calculator not only helps students quickly calculate the percentage but also helps them understand their best of four percentage as well as the passing criteria. Built in the calculator is the passing and percentage calculation criteria of the board. This includes which subjects to pick for aggregate as well as other combinations like PCM and PCB, etc. for Class 12.

To find your percentage, simply provide the subject and marks in the space provided and enter. The calculator would share your aggregate as well as the best performance (best of four) for you to know.

CBSE Result: How to calculate percentage

Calculating percentage is a simple formula. All one needs to do is add the marks obtained in all the subjects and divide the same with the total marks of all the subjects. This would then be multiplied by 100 to accurately share the percentage obtained.

For example, a student scored 45, 55, 65, 75 and 70 in his/her 5 subjects, then the formula for calculating the percentage would be

[(45+55+65+75+70)/500] X 100

This would then come out to 62 percent.

How to calculate when there are more subjects?

CBSE, unlike many state boards, gives the students of Classes 10 and 12 to appear for more than the mandatory 5 examination. These subjects are call optional subjects. As per the CBSE Board Examination by-laws, a student in Class 10 can appear for as many as 7 subjects (5 main + 2 optional). For class 12, a maximum of 6 subjects is allowed to all students. These are purely optional and student may choose them or leave them.

Students can choose the subjects from any of the lists of Language, Elective or Skill Subjects as listed by the Board. Over 184 subjects are offered in Class 10 and nearly 150 in Class 12.

In case a student has appeared for more than the minimum 5 subjects, the aggregate percentage would still be calculated out of 500 and not 600 or 700. However, students can choose any of the subjects to calculate their aggregate. As per CBSE, the top 5 subjects (subjects with highest marks) are used for calculating the aggregate.

In other words, if a student has 6 subjects and has scored 45, 55, 65, 75, 70 and 85, then the aggregate percentage would use the marks 55, 65, 75, 70 and 85 and leave out 45. There is one catch, however. The aggregate must include at least one language – either English or Hindi. So, aggregate would be English (or Hindi) + any four subjects. In the above example, if 45 is the marks scored by the student in English, then to calculate the percentage, student will have to pick 45 but can drop 55. CBSE Aggregate Percentage, in that case, would include 45, 65, 75, 70, 85 which would come to an aggregate of 68 percent.

CBSE Result Calculator: What Board Says about Optional Subjects

CBSE, in line with National Education Policy, gives equal weight to all subjects chosen by the student. For computing the result, the board simply picks the best of 5 and gives the result.

In such a scenario, an optional subject (often a skill subject picked by students) can help the students pass the examination. This criterion is applicable for both Class 10 and 12. As per CBSE Rules, a student who scores an aggregate of 33 percent in any 5 subjects is given a passing grade. Even if a student fails in one subject but is clear aggregate pass in remaining 5, he/she need not appear for the compartment examination as well. The criterion is tabulated below for further clarity.

FAQs

  • What does the Percentage Calculator Do?
    +
The percentage calculator is a simple tool which will provide you the percentage of marks scored in your CBSE Board Examination. The calculator takes the raw marks and applies the calculation formula to provide you the percentage of marks.
  • How to calculate percentage of marks?
    +
To calculate the percentage of marks, one needs to sum all the marks scored and divide the same with the total marks of the given subjects. This total is then multiplied by 100 to give the percentage of marks scored.
  • Why does the CBSE percentage calculator show different percentage marks?
    +
CBSE Percentage Calculator calculates the aggregate marks obtained by students in a given board examination. For the passing criteria, CBSE considers the aggregate of marks scored in total of 5 subjects. Many colleges, however, seek the best of 4 subject percentages for admissions. The CBSE percentage calculator has been designed keeping in mind the same rationale and gives the student the aggregate percentage and best of four percentage marks.
  • Does the marks percentage calculator consider the best marks?
    +
Yes, the CBSE percentage calculator follows the logic used by the board for computation of merit or passing percentage for each student. The students are required to achieve a 33 percent aggregate percentage of marks to be given a pass. This includes the best performance of the student in any of the five subjects. The calculator uses the same logic.
  • How to calculate the percentage of marks of 6 subjects?
    +
Percentage of marks in six subjects would be calculated by dividing the sum total of marks scored in 6 subjects by 6. This percentage, however, is not used by CBSE and not required. Students are only required to provide an aggregate percentage of marks in 5 subjects.
  • Why do I need to add my subjects in the percentage calculator?
    +
CBSE aggregate requires a mandated requirement of English or Hindi Language to provide a pass certificate. The percentage calculator accordingly uses the subject markers to provide an accurate percentage aggregate, as per CBSE rules.
