As per UPSC Faculty Cum Mentor, Mansi Goyal, from Pariksha Punch, the prelims exam analysis is provided here:
-
UPSC Prelims 2026 was comparatively difficult and more analytical in nature compared to previous years. The paper focused more on conceptual clarity and application-based understanding rather than direct factual questions.
-
There was a noticeable shift in subject-wise weightage, with higher emphasis on History, Science & Technology, and International Relations, while direct Current Affairs questions were relatively fewer.
-
Many questions required deeper understanding of static subjects along with their linkage to contemporary developments and current events.
-
Along with traditional textbooks, candidates now need detailed preparation from government reports, PIB, ministry websites, and authentic institutional sources.

Future preparation should focus on conceptual learning, interdisciplinary understanding, smart revision, and regular practice of analytical MCQs
